The 2020 Car Audio Season Starts at KnowledgeFest Dallas – Part One

Every August, mobile enhancement manufacturers, distributors and retailers from around the world come together at KnowledgeFest. Hosted by the Mobile Electronics Association, this industry-only event exists to promote education and deliver a platform for networking among retailers. The show is also a perfect kick-off to the 2020 car audio season, with many manufacturers showing new products that will be available later this year or next spring. While not completely comprehensive, I had a chance to walk the show floor and snap photos of some of the cool new products that will be available soon and check out some of the awesome demo vehicles on display. With an intended shipping date of December 2019, the new Sony XAV-AX8000 adds a massive 9-inch display to the lineup with the feature set of its XAV-AX5000 multimedia receiver.

Sony’s Subaru Impreza features front and rear speakers, as well as a pair of subwoofers all powered by the High Power amplifier built into the XAV-AX7000 head unit in the dash of the vehicle.

This immaculate pickup owned by Christerfer Pate of Mobile Toys was one of the highlights of the show. Every square inch of the truck was hand-crafted to perfection.

Firstech introduced the DroneMobile X1 MAX, one of two new smartphone-controlled convenience solutions shown at KnowledgeFest. The X1 MAX includes a backup battery as well as integrated shock, motion and glass breakage sensors. An on-board accelerometer will provide real-time alerts of aggressive driving or potential accidents.

Three new source unit upgrades from iDatalink include the KIT-CAM1 to fit 2010-2015 Chevy Camaros, the KIT-DUR1 for 2014-2019 Dodge Durango and the KIT-K150 for 2013 and 2014 For F-150 trucks with the 4.3-inch MyFord radio. All kits include a Maestro RR interface for complete integration with your new Sony, Kenwood, Alpine or Pioneer multimedia receiver.

This awesome custom Harley-Davidson was right at home in the Elettromedia booth with speakers and amplifiers from Hertz.

The new PMX-HD9813 multimedia receiver is designed specifically for 1998 through 2013 Harley Davidson Road Glide, Street Glide and Electra Glide bikes. The radio is water- and dust-resistant, includes Bluetooth for audio streaming and works with the factory-installed controls on the handlebars.

This amazing BMW, owned by Gary Biggs, was in the booth at AudioControl. The vehicle features AudioControl amplifiers and digital signal processors. AudioControl launched two new five-channel amps at the show, one with and one without integrated DSP.

Andy Wehmeyer and Manuel Rivera were on hand with Andy’s Mercedes-Benz. The car features a custom-made 24-channel amplifier and the Multiseat Stereo Upmixer that the company developed to provide an amazing and realistic listening experience from every seat in the vehicle.

Helix Amplification, Helix Digital Signal Processing, BLAM MultiX speakers and Helix subwoofers were featured throughout the build.
