The Broken Silence Custom Car Audio team shifted gears this week. To preface, the Mustang Dark Horse will produce over 800 horsepower—300 more than the stock configuration. This boost in power will shave more than a second and a half off the quarter-mile time. It also means even a brief throttle blip might propel the Mustang past the speed limit. To help monitor things, Project Broken Silence is getting a state-of-the-art Escort Radar Detector. Let’s check it out.
Escort Redline Ci 360c
These days, police rely more on laser speed measurement devices than radar detectors. These LIDAR guns are highly accurate and measure speed quickly. The Escort Redline Ci 360c combines radar detection with laser-shifting technology.
On the radar side, DSP-based radar antennae are fine-tuned to detect X, K, and Ka-band signals. Signal processing and intelligent filtering minimize false alarms from radar cruise control systems and automatic doors. Additionally, the system allows drivers to mark known false alarm locations.
Laser Defense Solution
The Escort system also offers protection against police LIDAR with its laser shifters. Upon detecting a LIDAR signal, the shifters transmit a scrambled signal to confuse the speed gun. The driver can then check their speed and cancel the transmission. If done quickly, the officer remains unaware.
System Control
The team hasn’t finished yet, but the display and controller placement is critical. The driver must clearly see the display without it becoming a distraction. Similarly, the control panel should be easy to reach without compromising the interior’s aesthetics.
Expert Installation
If you’ve followed BestCarAudio.com for a while, you know how crucial proper installation is. For laser defense systems, sensor placement and alignment directly affect performance. B.J. Curcio and Adan Martinez are ensuring this system integrates flawlessly.
The team wraps all the wiring for the laser shifters in automotive-grade cloth tape to prevent damage from rubbing. They will level the sensors after completing the audio system installation and finalizing the vehicle’s ride height.
Custom A-Pillar Tweeter Mounting
Progress continues on the A-pillar tweeter mounts. B.J. and Adan have finished all the fabrication and priming. The final texture coat has been applied, and the tweeters are in place for the final time. Aside from the hint of yellow, they could have come from the factory in this location.
Subwoofer Enclosure and Amp Rack
The subwoofer enclosure fits into the back of the trunk and houses the pair of Sony XS-W104ES 10-inch subwoofers. As can be seen from the images below, the enclosure has a front window that allows onlookers to see the drivers in action.
Two XM-5ES five-channel amps power the Project: Broken Silence Mustang. The team mounted the amps on the trunk floor. They measured, cut, and beveled expanded PVC panels to trim the amps. The system’s wiring will be concealed to replicate the clean installation of factory audio components.
Project: Broken Silence SEMA Show Car
We’ve seen a lot of progress over the last two weeks. The Broken Silence Custom Car Audio team is close to wrapping up this fantastic build. Seeing the car at SEMA will be a proud moment for everyone involved. Stay tuned as Project Broken Silence moves closer to completion.
