Custom Consoles Take Center Stage

June 7, 2024 By Dave MacKinnon

Center Console

Decades ago, most cars and trucks didn’t come with center consoles. In some cases, this was based on the vehicle design; in others, it was a cost concern. If you’re looking for a location for a modern multimedia receiver or a subwoofer enclosure where there isn’t room, having a specialty mobile enhancement retailer build you a console can be a great solution.

Evolution Garage

Thanks to our friend Moe Sabourin for connecting us with the guys at Evolution Garage in Eustis, Florida. The lead-in photo for this article is an example of their custom fabrication capabilities. Shown here is a console that Justin Vaughn built for a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle. The console features gauges, a Kenwood radio, cup holders and leather trim around the shifter that matches the seats.

This console extends the dash’s smooth, organic shape into the floor of this gorgeous 1932 Ford. Once again, a Kenwood multimedia receiver serves as the centerpiece for this nicely crafted console.

August Customs

Located in Kelowna, British Columbia, the team at August Customs created a console for a client’s 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. The team relocated the shifter from its original floor mount and added custom laminated acrylic and aluminum trim panels. There are also switches for the newly installed power windows and a 3D-printed mount for the fuel injection display.
